Hello, I'm Craig
Before becoming a counsellor, I spent more than 20 years working in the corporate world. It was a very different career, but it taught me a lot about people, pressure, expectations and the challenges of trying to keep everything going when life doesn't always go to plan.
My time in the corporate world has also influenced the way I work as a therapist. I tend to take a practical, grounded and straightforward approach, while making sure there is space to explore things at your own pace.
I don't believe therapy needs to feel clinical, intimidating or full of complicated psychological terminology. You don't need to know what to say, have the right words, or even know exactly what's wrong.
You can simply come as you are.
My role is to listen, understand and help you make sense of what's going on, without judgement or assumptions. I won't tell you how you should live your life. We'll work together to understand what's happening and explore what might help.
I work integratively, drawing from different therapeutic approaches so that our work can be shaped around you rather than expecting you to fit a particular model. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and Counselling and a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling, with training in Person-Centred Therapy, Gestalt, CBT, Schema Therapy, the Skilled Helper model and Psychoanalytic approaches, alongside group and child therapy.
You may be coming to counselling with anxiety, panic attacks, trauma, stress, burnout, low confidence or relationship difficulties. Or perhaps you simply feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected or not quite yourself. Whatever brings you here, you don't need to have everything figured out before we begin.
Some of the things we explore may be difficult or deeply personal. If there are experiences from the past that are still affecting you today, we can take the time to explore them together and understand how they may be shaping how you feel and respond now.
At the same time, I don't believe therapy has to feel heavy every minute. Where appropriate, I think humour and light-heartedness have a place too. Being able to laugh, gain a different perspective or simply have a moment where things feel lighter doesn't diminish what you're going through. Sometimes it's just part of being human.
Ultimately, I want therapy with me to be a space where you can take a breath, put some of the outside world's expectations to one side and be honest about how things really are.
Taking that first step can feel daunting. An initial chat gives us the opportunity to get to know each other, talk about what's brought you to counselling and see whether you feel comfortable working with me. There's no pressure or expectation.
If you're looking for someone warm, practical and down-to-earth, I'd be very happy to hear from you.
